Bob Novak’s column today

begins:

The main reason I am writing this column is that many people have asked me how I first realized I was suffering from a brain tumor and what I have done about it.

But I also want to relate the reaction to my disease, mostly compassionate, that belies Washington's reputation.
The column continues here.

It’s interesting, touching, affirming and graceful.

I hope you all give it a look.

The reactions of Plame and Wilson are, sadly, not a surprise.

Novak"s column was an honest, sad , yet hopeful column. When one receives a health death sentence as Novak received from his doctors, one is faced with the very real fact that one's time on earth is limited. It is also sad in that there are those, like Valerie Pflame and Wilson, who have not the least whit of compassion for the suffering of their fellow man. It is hopeful though on many fronts. It is hopeful because there do exist a far number of people who are able and willing to put past disagreements aside to help and suppport others (Ted Kennedy and his wife) and to remember that in the end, Christ will ask whether one learned the lesons imbedded in the Sermon on the Mount. It is also hopeful because of the advances in medicine that have enabled such a condition to be treated. Novak's honesty in writing this column displays his deep faith as well. We may be flawed as humans but we also have the capacity to rise above those flaws. Obviously his deep religious faith has sustained him in the past will provide the anchor for whatever lies ahead.
