Folks,
I want to give you a heads-up I'll be shutting down JinC this Thursday.
My professional responsibilities have grown recently and will soon grow again.
I can't meet those responsibilities and blog. I'll have to content myself with occasional commenting at blogs and other Internet publications.
I’m going to miss blogging and the interactions with the great majority of you, particularly those I count as Regulars and “editors.”
You all have added a great deal to this blog. I’ll try in the next few days to say how and to adequately express my gratitude to you.
I won't mention anyone by name for fear of inadvertently forgetting to mention others.
I also plan a few posts in which I'll share some of the things I've learned or had reinforced by blogging.
There will also be a post giving you my current views on the Raleigh N&O Duke lacrosse coverage, a post explaining why I think the N&O has never apologized for that coverage, and a post examining KC Johnson's treatment of the N&O’s coverage as expressed in Until Proven Innocent, the book he co-authored with Stuart Taylor and KC’s posts at his Durham in Wonderland blog.
I’ve done some looking back through the JinC achieves and found posts I want to repost for one reason or another. Sometimes it's for a serious purpose and sometimes it just for fun. In one instance it will be for both.
And I hope there'll be a few other posts as time permits.
So there’ll be full posting between now and the close on Thursday.
I hope you'll visit often.
Thank you.
John

John-
Thank you for all of the time that you've spent blogging. I've enjoyed reading you and will miss checking in on you daily.
Best of luck with your new responsibilities.
LAXFAN
Thanks for all the great posts - I'll miss this blog!

You will be missed - I review your site many times a day. I'd love to know where frequently visit to review stories.
Dear JinC -
I am truly saddened to read that you are shutting down this Thursday. I have enjoyed reading your many posts and the comments of all who respond with great witticisms, articulate outrage, and information. I hope that at some future time that you will again have the time to resuem your regular postings. In the meantime, best wishes on your future endeavors - perhaps you can tell your loyal readersw the sites that you will be posting so that we can continue to enjoy your take on the many issues that interes your loyal readers.
cks
There are many of us at Duke who will miss you.
You've been strongly critical but fair in your treatment of the University.
To say it using two of your favorite words, you've been "informed" and "thoughtful."
You provided a welcome contrast to the mean and over-the-top comments of people like KC Johnson, his Diva, and Bill Anderson.
You managed to do well by the players and by Duke.
Good luck.
John:
Happy trails.

The anon from Duke said just what I was thinking.
The best of luck, John.
I hope you return to blogging when you can.
Discovery should tempt you.
Another JinC fan at Duke
PS: Brodhead must go.
Ditto to all the above.
(A local carriage museum has the coach in which Churchill rode in the 1953 coronation procession. While looking at it, what did I think of except the JinC Churchill series?)
Sorry to see you leave, John. I'm hoping this will be a temporary break not a permanent move. You've done a great service to the people of North Carolina and beyond. We'll keep in touch.
John:
You will truly be missed. Reading and commenting on your blog is an important part of each day for me, and I will miss your astute and always civil commentary. We all hope your increased professional responsibilities will be both rewarding and intellectuaslly stimulating.
God speed and good fortune, my friend.
Tarheel Hawkeye
Hate to see you go JiC. Certainly one of my top rated Blogs. Started with the Churchill series but learned we had more in common than the admiration of one of the greatest men of all times.
Best of luck in your new ventures. Hope that we cross trails again.
Well John I'm going to miss reading your blog. It was always an informative and enjoyable read.
Also you've always been very honest with your comments and about any mistakes you've made which is way too uncommon on the net.
I will also miss your Churchill Series. Unique, but very interesting, especially to someone who wasn't taught history.
Scott S.
JinC,
You will definitely be missed.
Thanks for your thoughtful, incise commentary. Hope we'll 'hear' lots more from you on other blogs!
PS
John,
Thanks. You will be missed. You are a class act, and you have done a fine job of providing thoughtful comment on higher education, politics, and history. Best wishes for your professional advancement.
Orson Buggeigh
John,
Of all the things you did on this blog, I appreciated most three things.
One, your willingness to criticize The Chronicle for it's failure to speak out against the University's silence when the Black Panthers made threats against the players.
Two, asking Women Studies if it was going to recognize the Women's Lacrosse team for being the only group on campus to get the Hoax right and speak out about it.
Three, your civility. Most people my age act like they believe if you don't put at least one "f ..." in a sentence, you're not saying anything.
You taught me and some others a great deal. We owe you a lot.
Best of luck.

Sweetmick says: Hell no Don't go. Forget about enjoying reading you. You "educated" us in the greatest sense of that word. You gave us knowledge; you motivated us to overcome our complacency as to what we believed was the truth; you showed us that we can not be content with winning the battle, that this war with the Left media and academia requires indefatigable perseverance. You really are inspiring. Plus, last year I went out and bought 2 books on Churchill because of your writings.
As Mickey Mantle said on his retirement, It was great while it lasted, it just didn't last long enough.
This hurts.
John,
I can't say I'll miss you... so...
make like a tire and hit the road!
John and and his blog played an important role in exposing the Duke lax hoax. He was there when the boys and their families needed him most. I am honored to call him my friend.
-Brittany
P.S.Can you wait until after the Duke-Syracuse game this weekend?
Goodbye John....
We met on the Front lines of Melanie’s Blog
While ever the gentleman, John was up to “the job.”
She tried to deter him, she’d ask him to leave
But John ALWAYS had.. “THE” response up his sleeve.
And back at his Blog, John was simply the best
At logically calling the Hoaxers to task.
He point out each villain, each twister, each fool.
But at no time whatsoever did John lose his “cool.:”
Among the Hoax bloggers he was ..the “Cool Hand Luke”
But relentless in pressing to get at the Truth.
So we shall miss him, and pray he’ll return
(Joan still has a lot about Churchill to learn!)
But we thank him so much for all that he’s done.
Our Comrade, our friend…Carolina’s own John!
So long, JinC. Your blog will be missed. We don't agree on a lot of things, but one thing we do agree on is the innocence of Reade, Collin, and Dave. I especially enjoyed your skewering of Melanie Sill on the N&O’s Editor’s Blog before she hightailed it out of town. Your blog played a big part in exposing the Duke lacrosse case for what it was…a frame. Thank you for your hard work.
Good luck in your future endeavors.
~krddurham
John-Yours were the first words I read on the Duke case and I thank you most heartfeltly for the three year quest which you inspired.
You have played a unique roll in righting this injustice and must surely continue to make yorself heard..
As so many others, I am sorry to see your blog end but am thankful that it was here and your words and work will stand in perpetuity. You may someday publish some collected works.
I liked this blog. Sorry to hear that its days are coming to an end. Perhaps sometime in the future you will consider resuming it.
John, thanks for all your wisdom, I enjoy your work. You will be missed.

John -
I'm thinking anon @ 11:37 is Bob Steel. He loves tough guy talk and threats. Throw them under the bus and all that.
Macho, macho.
Can you confirm my hunch?
As for me, I'm with Sweetmick -
Sweetmick says: Hell no Don't go. Forget about enjoying reading you. You "educated" us in the greatest sense of that word.
I'm sure Liestoppers would sign you up for guest blogging?
What do you say?
A Duke Mom
John,
You have been a tireless advocate for the truth in politics in general and the lacrosse case specifically.
Your criticism of the media, especially the N&O and more recently the Chronicle, has opened the eyes of many of us to media malfeasance.
Your criticism of Duke has been fair yet relentless.
I will miss your insights, but most of all your ability to argue in a civil discourse.
The blogosphere will miss you, as will I.
Best wishes.

8:22pm,we've all enjoyed John's consistent good work and he is indeed a thoughtful blogger. But you don't have to rag on others to praise John. Many played their part, none more than KC Johnson, Debrah Diva, and Bill Anderson. In fact without D-i-W and the thrilling Diva I might not have continued following this case. We all wish John much success and I know he will achieve whatever he puts his sights on.
John,
Good riddance.
Don't come back now, ya hear?
Be well
Thanx for everything.
John,
After your blog shuts, please considerpostingon LS once in a while.
Thank you, John, for your excellent posts and stellar research.
I, too, hope we'll 'hear' from you on other blogs.

“The defense is trying the case in the media.”
Mike Nifong No, the case wasn't tried in the Media. The Media ignored facts that didn't fit the metanarrative.
It only took a couple blogs to win the case - and 'John in Carolina' was one of them. A citizen that stood up and told the truth and let his voice be heard.
God Bless you John!
God Bless you!
John, I will miss your reasoned arguments, your self-depreciating sense of humor, your righteous outrage, your Churchill lessons, and your persistence for justice. I hope you will post occasionally at Liestoppers, especially when the cases EVENTUALLY come to trial. You have always been able to maintain a certain grace in the midst of great turmoil. Such a gift is noted and appreciated by many.
