Today’s Met Opera broadcast is Wagner’s Götterdämmerung. What I’ve had a chance to hear has been wonderful.
But whenever I listen to a Wagnerian composition, I can’t help recalling and smiling at Mark Twain’s comment:
”I’m told Wagner’s music's not as bad as it sounds.”

John: I've seen that remark credited to several people, including Oscar Levant, but I think it fits Twain the best.
I listened to Das Ring, too, but found it intolerably loooong. I much prefer Meistersinger;

TH,
Das Ring is certainly looong and I agree with you on Meistersinger.
The remark is attributed to many but as you say it fits Mark Twain.

John, I heard this recently-
Q. If the answer is 9-W, what is the question?
