Obama's challenge

By now even people who get their news through liberal/leftist news organizations' “filters” know Sen. Obama’s close friend and pastor Rev. Jeremiah Wright said:

"We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America's chickens are coming home to roost.”
Wright delivered that pulpit pronouncement just six days after the terrorists’ Sept. 11 attacks on New York and Washington.

Obama insists he didn’t know anything about Wright’s awful justification for the terrorists’ slaughter of Americans and citizens from many other nations.

Obama says he wasn’t in church that Sunday.

He also wants us to believe his absence from church that Sunday explains why he didn’t know Wright shouted in the same sermon:
“We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye."
Obama’s MSM supporters have done their best to ignore or radically downplay the many virulently anti-American and racist statements Wright’s made over the years.

Newsweek , for example, refers to them as “snippets.” And don’t call the NY Times unless you have dirt on Sen. McCain or a national security secret to disclose.

But the story hasn’t gone away, thanks to some fact-based reporting by, among others, ABC News, Fox News and many bloggers. And "snippets” are easily accessed at You Tube where everyone can see and hear for themselves Rev. Wright in all his froth and fury.

So today Obama will give a speech he never wanted to give.

I don’t doubt Obama’s speech will “satisfy” his MSM supporters, the Democratic base, and people who nodded approvingly when Wright gave a Lifetime Achievement Award to Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan.

But can he satisfy the rest of us?

Can he convince us he never knew?

Or, if he did know, can he convince us to trust him “to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States?”

I hope some way he can, but I doubt it.

What about you?

"I hope some way he can"

You are kidding me. The Anybody but Obama campaign is alive and well on this blog.

Our record in Africa is atrocious, we just do not care. There are many great and patriotic Americans that have been critical of the use of nukes on Japan.

I am not convinced to NOT vote for Obama.

Some thoughts for Red Mountain:
What does Obama's record as an Illinois State Senator tell us?
What does Obama's record as a United States Senator from Illinois tell us?
What accomplishments can Obama point to that make him qualified to become the nation's chief executive?
How can Obama claim to have been a member of Trinity's congregation for 20-plus years yet remain ignorant of Wright's racism and bigotry?
Given the fact that the presidency gives precious little power to the incumbent, what can Obama do as president to change our political and social systems?
The answers to these and other questions have provided me with sufficient information upon which to base my vote. Despite Red Mountain's implication that the posters on JinC are all knee-jerk Obama-haters, I believe the posts on this blog exhibit a singularly open minded and liberal (in the old sense) attitude. Should Red Mountain conclude his research and cast his vote for Obama, rest assured, there will be many others who chose otherwise and for good reasons.

I am afraid its goes a bit beyond that. I suspect the campign is spreading rapidly across the country.

"God d___ America" lacks a certain populist appeal.

It's pretty clear that Obama is rhetorically gifted and will make a glittering case for himself as the perfect race-transcending, evenhanded, love-thy-neighbor politico available for our Presidential chair.

However, in all his previous rhetoric there's been no indication that he votes far left in the Senate and has spent 20 years in church absorbing some pretty racist sermons.

So this kid is going to consider Obama's deeds 99 percent, and words one percent. After Bill Clinton, we've learned proper caution about chameleons who can be anything to anybody. Principles! Look at his deeds for his principles, the words won't help at all.
