Carter’s latest: You decide

When it comes to truth telling most Democrats rank former President Jimmy Carter right up there beside Senator Ted Kennedy, Reverend Al Sharpton, former President Bill Clinton and film faker Michael Moore. Maybe even a little higher than Sharpton and Moore.

With that as background, I’ll bet you know a few days ago Carter was reported to have said a number of things about the current Bush administration, including that it's the “worst in [America’s] history.”

Carter’s remarks got American’s thinking about whose administration is really the worst in our history. That’s never good for “the Carter legacy” MSM Dems have worked so hard to prop up and inflate.

Carter must have learned what was happening because now the AP is telling us:

Former President Jimmy Carter said Monday his remarks were "careless or misinterpreted" when he said the Bush administration has been the "worst in history" for its impact around the world.

Speaking on NBC's "Today," Carter appeared to retreat from a statement he made to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for a Saturday story in which he said: "I think as far as the adverse impact on the nation around the world, this administration has been the worst in history."

Carter said Monday that when he made the comment, he was responding to a question comparing the Bush administration's foreign policy to that of Richard Nixon.
But who can you believe? Carter and the AP are equally unreliable sources.

Fortunately for those who care about the truth, there’s an audio tape of Carter’s actual remarks. You can listen to them here at AOL Audio Player. [Look on the left side of the screen for the large box titled “Carter Interview.”]

If after listening to the tape, you decide Carter’s telling the truth when he claims his remarks were “careless or misinterpreted” rather than deliberate, don’t contact me.

Just double your usual weekly contribution to Moveon.org or send George Soros a signed blank check.

Once more, the audio's here.

Carter's last book was enough for me. I don't know if he is getting mean or senile. He surely has his nerve, commenting on George W, after the failed administration he had. He could not even get himself reelected. Tip O'neill said "Carter was the smartest President, he ever met." Not ture now and really needs to retire from public life.

Actually, as I recall, Nixon opened up China and bombed the commies to the peace table in Vietnam.

Carter, er, well, he, um, uh, well, er, ah, I mean to say, ah, Beadle, Beadle, come and take this Vestry please!

John - any comment on boming the commies to the peace table in Vietnam? I have lived long enough to remember the helicopters taking off from the American Embassy in Saigon. at the end.

Carter has shown himself to be a bit less than presidential with his crtitiques, however valid.

That said, I'll take a hundred Bill Clinton's over the guy thats been in the office the last seven years, just to be fair about it.

I don't like Clinton's lies, but I liked his presidency.

Carter is just a mean, bitter old person who realizes that his place in history will not be looked on with favor.

I do too. Plus I've read several histories of the war in Vietnam.

-> Nixon was president from Jan/69 through Aug/74

-> Bombing of Cambodia (and later Laos) started in 1969.

-> By mid-1972 conventional military forces (US) were removed from Vietnam (Vietnamazation). (Note - ARVN quickly gets their butt kicked several times)

-> Late 1972, North Vietnam suddenly demands peace accord changes

-> Late(r) 1972, Nixon orders North Vietnam bombed back into the stone age, very Mark Clark-ishly.

-> Jan/1973, Peace Accords are signed.

-> Late 1974 - Congress cuts off funding for South Vietnam (not sure that made much diffo, though smart people disagree with me)

-> 30/April/75 - Saigon falls and the world sees America shoving helicopters into the South China sea.

Fast forward -> All the MSM talks about is how we "lost the war" in Vietnam. I dunno how you lose a war when you're not funding one and you have no troops involved, but there you go.

Having lived through both Carter's and Bush's presidencies, it isn't any contest. Carter appointed a political hack G. William Miller as Chairman of the Fed. The man was a big corporate contributor. If a more proactive approach had been taken in '77, I wouldn't have been paying 16% mortgage in the early 80's. Despite all the hoopla about his foreign policy, his actions have been disastrous. The most recent was endorsing the election of the nutcase Chavez, but don't forget the '94 treaty with North Korea - the one that we're now trying to recover from. He negotiated that one. The 1980 summer olympics, the Iran revolution. Back then everyone hated us and were laughing at us. Carter was thrown out after one term in a landslide. He has been trying to screw all of us since then. No question, he's the worst of ALL time.
