… Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and Air Force One to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.
In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.
"To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding," Sen. Charles Schumer said. "It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity." …

Sen. Schumer only stated the obvious. but I’ll take an opportunity that doesn’t come along often to say, “I agree with Schumer.”

Much as it hurts, really hurts, I, too, agree with UpChuck. Even a blind hog will occasionally find an acorn.

Schumer was right - as Bloomberg was within his rights to be extremely upset. Whoever made the boneheaded decision needs a reality check. Additionally, given the economic crisis, why is the government wasting money on this? Have they not heard of photo-shop?

A third of a Million Dollars was used to take pictures. Aircraft entered NYC airspace without the Department of Defense knowing about it, with no problems. The president didn't know about it. The pictures were take on a Monday morning as financial district employees were going to work. A 747 with fighters on it's tail. Nobody knew or should have known it was an official excersize in stupidity. It was and Obama should issue a public appology to New Yorkers, and the world and take the blame for this, just as he takes credit for everything good.
Obama proves again he's all talk, no class, justa an a**.
