An N&O joke

A Raleigh News & Observer reporter witnessed a man risk his life to save a child from an attack by a rabid dog.

The reporter asked the man if he could interview him for the story he was going to write for the next day’s N&O.

The man said sure. The reporter got out his laptop and began entering story text.

Soon the man noticed the reporter had typed as his lede: “Tar Heel fan risks life, saves child”

“Why are you calling me a Tar Heel fan,” the man asked?

“We’re in Chapel Hill. Isn’t everyone here a Tar Heel fan?” the reporter replied.

“Not me,” the man said. "I’m a Duke fan.”

The story appeared in N&O under the lede: “Duke fan kills family pet”

Sad but true. Ridiculous, too, how local blogs like BlueNC and Pam's House Blend are totally ignoring the big Nifong elephant in the room. The biggest story about NC for the rest of the country, and they totally ignore it.

Rest in Peace Barbaro

(Yes, rest in peace, Barbaro). Those left-wing NC bloggers seem to be an unfair lot, basically. Now they're hoping the story will just go away, because they're too tied into the groups that now look so bad. But the Duke case is not going to go away quietly. It's probably just beginning. Just wait until all of the NC prisoners convicted on DNA evidence start screaming for new trials.

Thank you for that one.

John -- Please. Anyone with either A) access to the internet or B) an interest in sports has heard this joke endlessly recycled to fit a particular team/school. I first heard it more than five years ago about the Kentucky Wildcats.
