Rev. Jesse Jackson steps into the Duke lacrosse spotlight

The Associated Press reports:

The Rev. Jesse Jackson said Saturday his Rainbow/Push Coalition will pay the college tuition of a woman who told police she was raped by members of Duke University's men's lacrosse team while working as a stripper -- no matter the outcome of the case.

"I can't wait ... to talk with her and have prayer with her, because our organization is committed, when she's physically and emotionally able ... to provide for her the scholarship money to finish school so she will never ... again have to stoop that low to survive," he said from Chicago in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

When asked, the civil rights leader also said his group will pay for the woman's tuition even if her report proves false. …
So, you want a college scholarship? You got it. And you don’t even need to study hard and get good grades so long as you can make a false rape accusation.

All you parents, teachers, and guidance counselors: be sure to let high school students know how they can become eligible for a Rev. Jackson scholarship.

Jackson's really helping change America, isn't he?

The AP says nothing about what Jackson, regarded by some as a civil rights leader, plans to provide victims falsely accused by his scholarship winners.

Hat tip and trackback: Signifying Nothing.

Really, the only good news is that he's not coming down.

B/C that might lead to $harpton coming down.

And Durham has enough trouble.

The only people with accurate knowledge of what really occurred on March 13 are those who were involved. Despite that, I believe it is honorable and brave of Reverand Jackson to exhibit mercy on the young girl despite the obvious criticisms he must have known he would be getting. Everyone needs mercy and Rev. Jackson has reached out his hand in the attempts of helping one person stand. I think that's awesome!

Jesse Jackson is a racist. His sole purpose in life is to point a gun at any person or organization that is in conflist with a black person...obviously, the fact that he will support this girl financially, regardless of the outcome, proves my point!

Jackson is supporting people making rape allegations regardless of the outcome? This not only encourages people to make fake rape allegations but also discourages women who have true rape allegations from coming forward. Good work making an already terrible situation even worse.

who's the idiot who thinks it's "honorable and brave" that rev jackson reached out to a liar who had no regard for anyone but herself? (I use the term Rev loosely here, as he pretends to be a preacher but has no moral fiber. ex: cheated on his wife). When will the "honorable" mr jackson reach out to these boys who were raked over the coals by the media and their school? When will mr jackson reach out to the coach who got fired and now has no career with duke university? Also, she's 27 years old and has 2 kids and everyone says oh that poor girl. She made her choices why should someone else bail her out. She apparently couldn't afford one kid so she got pregnant a second time? She's going to college but the only job she could get was as a stripper? Again, her poor choice!boo hoo!

Forgiveness is indeed a Christian attribute. Rev. Jackson is easily willing to forgive an individual who with malice and intent accused 3 individuals and attempted to ruin their lives. He is willing to extend a hand and provide financial support to a ‘guilty’ individual. (Is the same compassion extended to Don Imus – I think not) Rev. Jackson is synonymous with hypocrite. But then again, he was there for President Clinton for his extramarital affairs with his own ghosts (or child) in his own closet. Rev. Jackson you have NO credibility. Take care of your house - We need to stop the 'H' word and 'N' word in our media/songs before society will take notice.

Wow! Jes couldn't find that girl? He couldn't have been looking all that hard. He wants to meet, talk & pray with her ( we know what that means)

Hey Jessie still giving that scholarship away? How about you start apologizing to all the (White) students you accused of rape. I thought the constitution stated innocent till proven guilty, well I guess you live in a different world then everyone else. You are always accusing everyone else of being a racist but I think you need to look in a mirror because YOU are the biggest racist in the USA.

Jackson is the biggest racist hypocrite in the nation and I will never look to him as a voice of the African American communitte. I am black and to all the people reading this: not all blacks are as hateful and vindictive as Jackson and SHarpton. They create controversey to line their pockets and get camera exposure. They are dispicable in the worst form and not all blacks are like that. Let me apologize for them because we all know they won't.

yea, rev. jackson will forgive a black but said imus's apology wasn't enough. LOL. What a hypocrite. I hope I never hear about that idiot again. I won't call him reverend because it gives a bad name to christians.

Jackson and Sharpton made this worse. Jackson and Sharpton made the Imus/Rutgers event worse. But NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN etc. put those fools on TV everyday. The "impartial" media are fools too.
