What I'm hearing about Senator Leahy can't be true

You know Vermont's Senator Pat Leahy, the fellow Vice-president Dick Cheney not too long ago told to "Go ...

Well, today I'm hearing Leahy has gone into hiding at an undisclosed location.

Surely the can't be true. It's just a silly rumor.

Still, it's got me wondering about Adam Clymer.

Remember him? The former New York Times political reporter then presidential nominee George W. Bush called "a major league (rhymns with brass pole); to which Cheney added, "Yeah, big time."

Has anyone seen Clymer today?

I'm just asking.

It might be true. Now that they understand potshots may not always be verbal.

It sounds like Whittington walked into it, which puts a different light on it. Only slightly different light, but it does show that Cheney didn't intentionally risk a shot where he had reason to know someone was. However, the guy with the gun (not the gun) the guy with the gun is the ultimate party responsible for shoot/don't shoot. If he shot at something he couldn't see, shame on him. Unless his shotgun shoots around corners he should have seen Whittington and held fire. That he didn't see Whittington suggests he was not maintaining a level of spatial awareness that is mandatory when shooting. He assumed and developed tunnel vision for his intended target and mentally ignored the intrusion of an unplanned event.

Fighter pilots used to auger into the ground for the same reason, target fixation. Still shame on Cheney, he was the guy with the gun.

Can you hear Whittington? I would surmise some of his comments. e.g. "No wonder they call you Dick." or "He must have thought I was a Democrat." or "This isn't the way to save Social Security." or "I quail at the thought of hunting with you again." or "You couldn't have done this before the Lawful Commerce in Arms law?".

And of course, we should be prepared as uninvolved parties. Let's not forget the to be expected liberal reaction. "We need new gun control laws to punish everybody that didn't do it."

Dear Straightarrow,

Your last sentence really nails it.
"Let's not forget the to be expected liberal reaction. 'We need new gun control laws to punish everybody that didn't do it.'"

I'll say it again: You comments add a lot to JinC.

Thank you.

AS A HUNTER ... I ABSOLUTELY SURE WE DON'T NEED GUN CONTROL TO THE POINT WHERE IT TAKES MY SHOTGUN AWAY.. BUT AS A WOMAN AND A MOM I CAN SAFELY SAY ... "ANYONE WHOE'S LOST THEIR EYESIGHT SHOULDN'T BE PACKING ...

NO OFFENSE TO THE AGING, BUT WHEN YOU CAN'T SEE IT ANYMORE PUT THE GUN IN THE CLOSET AND GIVE YOUR CAR KEYS TO THE WIFE... HA HA..

The obvious way to enjoy this episode, since Mr. Whittington was not seriously hurt, is to watch the moon-bats tying themselves in verbal knots over something that happens daily somewhere in hunting circles. Anyone read the stories of Saki anymore? I will say this in defence of the moon-bats--they would never appear in fiction--Saki's or anyother, for the simple fact that they would not seem credible or believeable. You could not make up something like Dana Milbank playing a dork.
